Rosberg cruises to victory in Monaco

NICO ROSBERG cruised to his first win of the season after leading from pole position to take the chequered flag in an action-packed Monaco Grand Prix.

The German, whose father Keke won this race 30 years ago, gave a faultless performance despite a 25-minute delay when the race was stopped due to a red flag following a smash. There wwere also the usual deployments of the safety car that accompany this famous race around the streets of Monte Carlo. But Rosberg kept his cool to finish ahead of Red Bull duo Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, while Lewis Hamilton came home in fourth.Speaking over his team’s radio, Rosberg said: “Thank you so much, this is a very special day.”However, the result is still officially dependent on the outcome of a protest from Red Bull and Ferrari, who are questioning Mercedes’ involvement in a top secret testing session after the last race in Barcelona. The stunning news came before the race and meant it somewhat overshadowed arguably the most glamorous date on the calendar.
