City Edin for Cavani scrap

Real join fight for £60million striker

MANCHESTER CITY are in a straight scrap with Real Madrid for the signature of £60million striker Edinson Cavani.
Chelsea have pulled out of the bidding for the Napoli superstar after discovering the total cost of a five-year-deal would be a staggering £100m — including £8m-a-year in wages for the Uruguayan ace.
And Cavani, 26, is said to be ‘lukewarm’ on a move to new French champions Paris Saint-Germain, even though the Qatari-backed club have the cash to seal such a mega deal.
All this leaves City and the Spanish giants to slug it out for goal-machine Cavani, who hit an astonishing 36 goals in 41 appearances for his Serie A side this season.
City chiefs hope Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko will be the key to completing the swoop.
They have held talks with the Italians over a swap deal, which would keep down the fee, and also take an existing big-money earner off the payroll.
But the fear at City is the glamour and appeal of joining Real Madrid, the world’s most famous and successful club, could yet sway Cavani’s final decision.
