'Campionissimo' Nibali

CYCLING / GIRO. CAVENDISH WINS FINAL STAGE

Vincenzo Nibali has been crowned 'Campionissimo' of the 96th Giro d'Italia. The Italian was the strongest and most accomplished all-round rider across all terrains, taking the first Italian race win of his career.
Colombian Rigoberto Urán and Australian Cadel Evans joined Nibali on the podium. Brit Mark Cavendish won the final stage into Brescia, sealing his fifth red jersey of this edition.
Nibali was without doubt the deserved victor, starting out as one of the favourites and proving he had the edge over his competitors throughout, demonstrating his fortitude in all areas: descents, time trials and at high altitude.
